Hello, Movie Buffs!
Paddington (2014) was an incredible family film for all ages and director Paul King returns to improve on that success with the sequel film, Paddington 2 (2017). Paddington 2 continues the story with more heart, more humor, and an even greater adventure.

Despite Paddington’s goal is to simply earn money for his Aunt Lucy’s birthday present, the story and the adventure he goes on is nothing short but interesting. Through his journey, Paddington begins to see just how to mean the world can be, and yet that does not dissuade his optimistic nature. Seeing a film with such a cheery nature that appeals to both children and adults is almost unheard off, especially when we live in an age where good storytelling means going dark. Paddington 2 enforces the idea that the majority of the world is good, we just have a hard time seeing it, and I agree that the world would be a better place if more people were willing to see the good in others. This kind of optimistic nature translates to the characters and the entire film.
Now I am not saying that the films are innocent to the point of being unrealistically naïve. Both the films and the stories acknowledge that there are bad people in the world and not everyone will have a sunny disposition. They even go as far as allowing Paddington to question his own positive persona and if it is truly the best way to handle situations. Paddington 2 is a breath of fresh air because it shows how some bad people can be good and vice versa, it’s just a matter of looking at their character as a whole rather than just on the surface. All in all, we must be kind and positive so that life will be kind and positive to us, but do so realistically.
The humor and action have multiplied since the last film. The climax is especially action packed with a big chase that is both thrilling and humorous to watch. The animation is more realistic with Paddington interacting with objects that are not animated makes it seem like he is really there. There are only a few children’s films that have actually made me laugh out loud due to the jokes and funny situation it presents. And Paddington 2 is a film that will make both the kids and the adults laugh out loud.
The story is elevated by the characters, who give great performances. Ben Whishaw continues to give Paddington a sense of honesty that makes his optimism more genuine. He works hard to try and find the good in people, and once he finds it he never lets go. Hugh Grant is fun as the over-the-top villain, his dialogue and actions, while corny, manage to inflict several laughs. The rest of the characters did great in reprising their roles and it was fun to see them try to clear Paddington’s name.

Overall, Paddington 2 (2018) is a warm, charming, funny and overall entertaining film. The story has grown since the last films with more humor, more heart, and even more adventure. The moral of the story is to be kind and positive, and in turn, life will be kind and positive. Although this is not always the case in the real world, its better than doing nothing and shouldn’t we all strive to be better than ourselves. The characters were great both new and old, and it was nice that those who reprised their roles have developed since the first film. If you enjoyed the first film I highly recommend that you see this one.

"Aunt Lucy said, if we're kind and polite the world will be right."
