Hello, Movie Buffs!
I have been a Jurassic Park fan for most of my life and when I saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) I was not disappointed with this fun and exciting sequel to Jurassic World (2015). To be honest this was probably one of the best sequels in the Jurassic Park franchise, as it takes the audience on a journey unlike any other. Director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible; A Monster Calls) did a great job directing this film and added new levels of suspense and thrill throughout the film to capture the audience’s attention.

Being the fifth film in the franchise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has the advantage of creating an unbelievable story. The film takes place 3 years after Jurassic World and the destruction of the dinosaur-theme park. Now Isla Nublar is the danger zone of a once dormant volcano putting the once extinct dinosaurs on the endangered species list. But the rescue and relocation operation of the dinosaurs proves to be part of a giant scheme for money and the newest dinosaur hybrid is an even bigger threat than the Indominous Rex. Out of all the films, this one proves to be the most dramatic as well as the most emotional. The ending blew me away and there is no telling where it will take us in the next film
Like its predecessor, Jurassic World, this film pays respect to the original film’s theme of genetic technology. Even now, genetic technology is still a deeply unknown subject and should be treated with great caution and respect for the unpredictable nature of reality. Fallen Kingdom successfully adds to this theme by further exposing the “consequences” of meddling with genetic technology. Like I said before the newest dinosaur hybrid is an even bigger threat than the Indominous Rex, and while the name, Indoraptor, could have been better nonetheless it is terrifying and almost unnatural on all levels.
The visuals and animatronics have gone to a whole new level. Once again the dinosaurs were acted out through the use of performance capture suits on actors. Director Bayona plays with the shadows in a way that can make even the toughest nut jump during the suspenseful scenes and action sequences. I’ll admit I screamed so loud during one particular scene despite the fact that I only seeing glimpses of it through my fingers. My friends said I sounded as if I were the one being attacked and by the end of the night my voice was a bit hoarse. The music score by Michael Giacchino was great and could be heard throughout the entire film, whether it was blatantly obvious or cautiously obscure.
The cast was once again incredible. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprise their roles with more developed characters. While the newest additions by Justice Smith (Every Day), Daniella Pineda (Mr. Roosevelt), Rafe Spall (The Big Short), James Cormwell (Marshall), Isabella Sermon, Ted Levine (The Alienest) gave some reasonably well performances and perhaps if they return for the next film will be given the chance to give even better performances. I enjoyed the short cameos from Jeff Goldblum’s character and hope he, Laura Dern or Sam Neil return for the next film.

Overall, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) is a truly entertaining and thrilling addition in the Jurassic Park franchises. I enjoyed every aspect of this film. The story was even better than the last film as it was action packed and suspensful. The cast both returning and new were great, especially the cameo from Jeff Goldblum. And while the human villain was not very threatening, the newest dinosaur hybrid was very menacing despite its ridiculous name. Stay tune for the after credit scene, although it is short it leaves no doubt that there will be a sixth film.

"These creatures were here before us. And if we're not careful... they're going to be hereafter. Life cannot be contained. Life breaks free. Life... finds a way. Welcome to... Jurassic World."
- Ian Malcolm
