Hello, Movie Buffs!
Tomorrowland (2015) has been dubbed as one of 2015’s biggest flops, which I find to be a misinterpretation of the film.  Director Brad Bird (The Incredibles; MI – Ghost Protocol), the script, and the actors did a great job in capturing the feeling of endless imagination and possibilities perfectly. This is a Disney adventure film, its family friendly so the story was fitting for the overall tone of the film. If you lack imagination or the yearning for a better world or you think science is dumb, then you'll most likely not enjoy this film.
The story is creative and compelling but don’t expect it to be “Star Wars edge-of-your-seat” tension. While the film is inspired by Disney’s “Tomorrowland” at the Magic Kingdom park, it manages to be and do its own thing. There were some twists, surprises, and humor while keeping a decent pace from start to finish. The story’s message is about hope and the promise of a bright future, two things that are lacking in today’s pessimistic society. It goes against a pessimistic mindset by promoting an optimistic vision for a better tomorrow. Director/writer Brad Bird and co-writer Damon Lindelof do not rely heavily on the world of “Tomorrowland”. In other words, while this film may showcase a futuristic utopia where the possibilities are endless, the journey is more important than the location. Most critics believe that the final was very anti-climactic but that is based on their opinions, I personally believe that the ending was small but it was fitting and suitable for the film as a whole. The hidden cameos are great as well. There are hidden cameos about secret societies, connections to Disneyland’s “Club 33”, and hints about the rivalry between Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Everyone knows more about Edison but Tesla, an underappreciated early-historical figure, deserves some more recognition.
The characters were believable and likable.. I am a big fan of Britt Robertson (A Space Between Us), who I hope to see in more films soon, and George Clooney (Ocean’s series). Robertson perfectly portrays Casey’s optimistic outlook without coming off as annoying, Clooney is perfect as the pessimistic inventor Frank who gradually regains his faith over the course of the film, and Raffey Cassidy (Allied) shines as the cool life-like robot Athena.
Overall, Tomorrowland (2015) is a great science fiction film for the whole family and is easily one of the most underrated films of 2015. The story is good, the message is touching,  the visuals are stunning and the cast fits perfectly within their roles. I recommend that you disregard the negative reviews and come to your own opinion of the film because not everyone will have the same opinion for every film. If you like the Back to the Future films, Ghostbusters films, The Haunted Mansion (2003),  and Earth to Echo (2014) then you will enjoy this film.
