Hello, Movie Buffs!
The Commuter (2018) is the 4th collaboration between Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) and lead actor Liam Neeson - following Unknown (2011), Non Stop (2014), and Run All Night (2015) – and if you’ve seen either of the films then you have a pretty good idea as to what you’re in for. Like Source Code (2011), Non-Stop (2014), and Flightplan (2005) all the action takes place in one location; on a commuter train (or in other cases a plane) and after the first 15 minutes things start to happen quickly. Add a few obvious plot clues, a fast pace, great characters, and you have one adrenaline-filled movie that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
The cast performed well. Over the years it has been great to see Liam Neeson's transformation into of the most famous and reliable action stars in film history. He brings a weight of charisma and conviction to his roles that are unlike any other action star. And although he plays similar roles, like comparing Non-Stop with The Commuter, he plays his roles spot on and I could not expect anyone else to do the role(s) justice.  The Supporting cast is also great. Elizabeth McGovern (The Handmaid’s Tale, 1990) as Neeson’s wife is a rare sighting, Sam Neil (Jurassic Park 1 & 3) is fitting as the somewhat mysterious Police Captain, Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) is great in her usual small role-mysterious woman, and Patrick Wilson (The Founder) as the almost too friendly best friend Murphy is both surprising and predictable (hint: if you want things done right then you have to do it yourself).
Overall, The Commuter (2018) is a Liam Neeson film all the way with the same old role, a great pace, and the intense action sequences. If you enjoyed films like Source Code (2011), Flightplan (2005), Unknown (2011), Non-Stop (2014), and Run All Night (2015) then you will no doubt love this film as well.

"Most of us ride this train every day. We no, we say hello, but how much do we really know about each other?"
- Michael McCauley
