Hello, Movie Buffs! 

     First, I would like to state that I have yet to read the series, with the exception of The Deathly Hallows, but I am an avid fan of the films. One day I hope to be given the chance to read the series but until then my review here is solely based on the film with no comparison from the book, except what I have heard or read from other sources.

     This time, not only does the director change but so does the writer. British director David Yates (The Legend of Tarzan; Fantastic Beasts 1) and American writer Michael Goldenberg (Artemis Fowl, 2019) take on this film and they do an excellent job. It has been a few months since his encounter with the newly resurrected Lord Voldemort during the final task at the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Now entering his 5^th year, Harry and co. quickly learn that the majority of the wizarding population do not know or believe in his encounter with Lord Voldemort. Believing that it is a power-play by Dumbledore for his job, Minster of Magic Cornelius Fudge appoints Ministry employee, Delores Umbridge as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. However her teaching is deficient and her methods are cruel, as she up a directorial regime and forbid students to from practicing defenses spells. In an act of rebellion and out of necessity, Harry agrees to start a secret club called Dumbledore's Army, where he will teach the students how to defend themselves and the school against the rising tide of evil. Based on the bestselling series by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) is the perfect mixture of action, suspense, adventure, and mystery we have been building up to since the first film.

     Steve Kloves returns as the writer while Mike Newell (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) takes over for Cuarón as director for this fourth installment into the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).  Harry Potter is now in his fourth year at Hogwarts and the school is hosting this year’s Tri-Wizard Tournament, wherein three Champions (one from each school) compete in three frighteningly dangerous challenges in the hopes of winning the eternal glory, the Triwizard Cup, and a monetary prize. However, as always with Harry Potter, nothing is ever normal as he becomes the unwilling fourth Champion despite being underage. With help from his friends, Harry bravely faces the three challenges, awkwardly finds a date for the Yule Ball, and becomes involved in a life and death duel that will change the wizarding world as they know it. Plot Summary

Hello, Movie Buffs! 

     Taking over from Chris Columbus (The Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets), director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) along with writer Steve Kloves excellently bring a much darker tone to the series with this third installment, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). The film follows Harry and Co. in their third year at Hogwarts and this year the atmosphere is tense. Mass murderer Sirius Black has escaped Azkaban, the Dementors (the foul guards of Azkaban) are being stationed around the school, and there is a traitor in their midst.

     Director Chris Columbus and writer Steve Kloves return for the second installment of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling Young Adult series, Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) builds from the first film and follows Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) in their second year at Hogwarts school. Here we are introduced to Hogwarts’ new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart (Kenneth Branagh – Murder on the Orient Express) who is an inept and self-centered wizard. But it becomes clear early on that Lockhart is the least of their worries once they discover that Salazar Slytherin’s legendary Chamber of Secrets has been opened.

     Directed by Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire; Home Alone) and written by Steve Kloves (Harry Potter films), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2003) is the first film in the franchise and is based off the best-selling young adult series by J.K. Rowling. The film introduces us to Harry Potter, a young boy who discovers that he is a wizard on his 11^th birthday, and follows him on his adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But aside from the adventures that take place, the series also carries an overall message that is inspiring to its core. It teaches us about the importance of love, friendship, courage, and loyalty, and that seeking knowledge or having ambition should be embraced as equally as courage and loyalty.
