Hello, Movie Buffs!
Narcotics detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) have been assigned to a high-tech task force that is investigating the flow of designer ecstasy in Miami. Their inquiries lead them to a major conspiracy involving the vicious and dangerous kingpin Johnny Tapia (Jordi Mollà), whose plan to control the city's drug trade has ignited a bloody turf war. Meanwhile, Mike and Marcus' relationship is threatened when they learn that they have been keeping major secrets from each other. Unless they can separate the personal from the professional, Mike and Marcus are in danger of blowing the case and endangering the life of Marcus' sister Sydney (Gabrielle Union), a DEA agent working undercover on the case.
Directed by Michael Bay (6 Underground, Amazon’s Jack Ryan) and screenplay by Ron Shelton (Tin Cup, White Men Can’t Jump) and Jerry Stahl (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Bad Boys 2 (2003) is an average summer action-comedy that is entertaining and explosive. The story is good and expands a bit more on the story but the highlight of the film is the action. It’s more violent, explosive, and contains not one but two car chases that are sure to keep you entrapped. Although, while it is entertaining to see bad guys get shot at, there is only so much you can take in one film before your ready for the villain to be brought down. At two and a half hours long, the runtime is excessive and unnecessary.
The cast performances were good. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence returned to their respective roles with more substance than before. Smith brings more charm and Lawrence adds more desperation to his character. Also, Gabrielle Union (Breaking In) and Jordi Molla (Amazon’s Jack Ryan) are clear in their respective roles.
Overall, Bad Boys II (2003) is not much different from the last film and yet also manages to be even more excessive. The story was good, the action was more violent and explosive than before, and the cast performances were good but the runtime was unnecessary for this type of film. All in all, while this was not my favorite film nor do I think I would ever watch it, I can understand why people enjoy it and if you looking for a decent action-comedy-cop film then this one is for you.

Final Vote --- 6 of 10 stars
