Hello, Movie Buffs!
The Recall (2017) is a fun and cheesy sci-fi film about friends Brendan (RJ Mitte Breaking Bad), Charlie (Jedidiah Goodacre The 100), Annie (Laura Bilgeri iZombie), Rob (Niko Pepaj How to Get Away with Murder), and Kara (Hannah Rose May Ballers) on a camping trip during an alien invasion and the mysterious Hunter is played by Wesley Snipes (Blade films).
This film is pretty funny as it is suspenseful, and this is partly due to Snipes’ character, the fanatical mountain man with mysterious past and questionable motives. Coincidently, he is the only one standing between the aliens and the five friends (or better yet humanity). However, his crazy and mysterious personality makes you question what he’s trying to leave in the past. Is he really trying to protect the teenagers and kill the aliens? Or does he have other more questionable plans?
As for technical aspects e, ery day scene is beautifully-shot and the night scenes are accompanied by eerie lighting, the music score is kind of '80s-inspired, and the CGI is relatively good for this film. The aliens looked pretty cool especially since we were given two different forms. One looks like an orange floating jellyfish and the other looks like a creature mash up of Slither (2006) and Independence Day (1996 and 2016). And the brief look inside of the alien ship was an interesting take on a classic. The script was good as well as the acting but some of the decisions made by the friends after the realization of an alien invasion were a bit expected. However, the ending of the film more than makes up for it as it delivers a bit of insight into what The Hunters true intentions were. Better yet the ending makes you wish that they come out with a sequel film. Overall, I recommend The Recall (2017) to anyone who wants to watch a simple and cheesy alien invasion film
